St. Paul UAME Church Celebrates Men’s Day 2026

“We Were Appointed to Lead”

Sunday, October 18, 2026 | Guest Preacher: Minister Anthony Jefferson

t. Paul UAME Church celebrated its annual Men’s Day on Sunday, October 18, 2026, with a spirit-filled worship service celebrating faith, leadership, responsibility, and the important role of men in the church, family, and community.

Under the theme “We Were Appointed to Lead,” inspired by Genesis 2:15, the congregation gathered for heartfelt prayer, uplifting praise, special recognition, and an inspiring message delivered by guest preacher Minister Anthony Jefferson.

Honoring Our Men — Awards of Commitment

Right Brother Westly James, Left Brother Jamal Thomas

A special highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Awards of Commitment to Brother Westley James, recognized for his faithfulness, dedication, and commitment to St. Paul UAME Church, and Brother Jamal Thomas, honored for his commitment to the church and his service to the community.

The recognition was a meaningful expression of appreciation for their contributions and a reminder that faithful service, both within and beyond the church walls, reflects the true spirit of Christian leadership.

Encouraging the Next Generation

The service also highlighted the participation of our young men, demonstrating that spiritual leadership can begin at any age.

Brother Amir Robins shared scripture readings from Genesis 2:15 and 1 Timothy 4:12–13, emphasizing the importance of being an example in faith, love, conduct, and character.

Brother Carter Galloway offered a heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving, while Brother Stephen Caldwell presented the morning announcements.

Their participation reminded the congregation of the importance of encouraging and preparing the next generation of Christian leaders.

A Powerful Message: “Leading Is Responsibility”

Guest preacher Minister Anthony Jefferson delivered a heartfelt and thought-provoking sermon challenging men to recognize and fulfill their God-given responsibilities.

“Leading is responsibility,” he declared, reminding the congregation that when God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden, He gave him an assignment to work, care for, and protect what had been entrusted to him.

Throughout his message, Minister Jefferson repeatedly challenged the men with the question:

“Are you working the garden?”

He explained that our gardens represent the responsibilities God has placed in our hands—our families, marriages, children, ministries, communities, and spiritual gifts.

True leadership, he emphasized, is not simply about holding a title. It requires commitment, accountability, faithfulness, and a willingness to serve.

A Personal Testimony of Faith, Family, and Perseverance

Minister Jefferson shared moving experiences from his life, including growing up without the consistent presence of his father and finding positive male role models who helped shape his understanding of responsibility and purpose.

Reflecting on 42 years of marriage, he spoke about the importance of faith, commitment, and learning to honor and respect one's spouse. Referencing 1 Peter 3:7, he reminded husbands that leadership must be accompanied by understanding, love, and respect.

He also shared his remarkable journey of 37 years as a bus driver, explaining how a job he did not particularly enjoy became a source of blessings and opportunities. Through perseverance, he was able to provide for his family, purchase homes, and establish a transportation business called Kids in Motion.

His testimony demonstrated that even life's challenges can become opportunities when we remain faithful and develop the gifts God has placed within us.

A Call for Men to Take Their Rightful Place

Minister Jefferson urged men to move beyond the four walls of the church and become more involved in their homes, ministries, and communities.

He encouraged older men to share their wisdom with younger generations and reminded the congregation of the importance of positive male role models.

He also challenged men to support their pastors, serve in ministry, develop their spiritual gifts, and take responsibility for their actions.

Drawing from Genesis 3, he reminded the congregation that leadership requires accountability and obedience to God's direction.

“What Are You Waiting On?”

As his message drew to a close, Minister Jefferson delivered a stirring challenge:

“Men, the world are waiting for you. Men, your family are waiting for you. What are you waiting on?”

Despite needing a brief moment of rest during his message, Minister Jefferson remained determined to complete his assignment. The congregation responded with encouragement and prayer, demonstrating the power of faith, love, and Christian fellowship.

His closing message reminded everyone that God has appointed each of us for a purpose and that we must be willing to answer His call.

A Celebration of Faith, Commitment, and Purpose

Men’s Day 2026 was more than a special Sunday worship service. It was a celebration of faithful service, an encouragement to the younger generation, and a reminder that God has called us to lead with purpose.

St. Paul UAME Church extends heartfelt appreciation to our guest preacher, our pastors, the award recipients, the men and young men who participated, and everyone who helped make the celebration meaningful.

May we continue to strengthen our families, encourage our youth, support our church, and serve our communities with faith, love, and dedication.
